I skipped the last few days of Blogmas because I was tired. Like, bone-deep tired. Overstimulated. Tapped out. And instead of forcing myself to push through for the sake of consistency, I took a break.
And if you’re reading this thinking, same, this post is for you.
The holidays are loud. They’re bright. They’re full of expectations, obligations, and a bajillion other things that all demand energy you might not have right now. Especially if you’re an educator. (Shout out to my fellow educators still thugging it out until Monday or Tuesday when literally EVERY other district is out on Friday, December 19.)
So consider this your official permission slip.
You don’t have to do all the traditions.
You don’t have to be festive on command.
You don’t have to say yes just because it’s December.
Rest isn’t quitting. Pausing isn’t failing. Taking a step back doesn’t mean you don’t care, it means you’re listening to yourself.
If your version of holiday joy looks quieter this year, that’s okay. If it looks like saying no, staying in, choosing comfort, or letting things be a little imperfect, that’s more than okay. That’s human.
So my festive friends and bookish besties, be gentle with yourselves, okay? Drink the cocoa. Read the book slowly. Cancel the plan if you need to.
Christmas doesn’t need you burned out to be meaningful.
You’re allowed to rest. Especially now.
