Heyy bookish besties! It’s been a while!
Let’s just say March was…a month.
Not in the cute “it’s spring” way either. More in the “why is my basement flooded, why are these 2nd graders bouncing off of the walls…literally, and why has my reading slump followed me into yet another month like a clingy ex” kind of way.
Although March still had its moments.
So before I fling myself into April, let’s talk about what March gave, what it took, and what I’m hoping to reset this month.
Sip of the Month

Iced lavender matcha. This is absolutely a spring drink. It feels like opening a window, buying a new notebook, and pretending your life is under control because your beverage is pretty. Which, honestly, is enough sometimes.
Books Read in March
Just one.
Yes.
One.
And before anyone gets cute, in my defense, I was dealing with personal stuff and another reading slump, which is a rude combo. Still I did finish False Play, which was a cute sports romance. It definitely served as the palate cleanser I needed.
Writing Update
Yet another plot bunny has broken into my brain and refused to leave.
This one is giving:
Buffy meets Living Single/Friends meets The Vampire Diaries meets In the Heights.
Soooo basically: supernatural chaos, ensemble cast, friendship chaos, banter, and a diverse town that may or may not be based on my own hometown where everyone knows each other’s secrets.
I haven’t fully pinned it down yet, but it has teeth.
All you other writers out there know the drill. Plot bunnies never knock. They just move in, bring luggage, eat your snacks, and demand your full attention.
Gaming News

I temporarily put down Assassin’s Creed Origins (sorry, Cleopatra) to replay Dragon Age: The Veilguard for a bit, because apparently my true hobby is returning to fictional worlds where everyone is hot, emotionally complicated, and carrying several layers of trauma.
No regrets.
Sometimes you don’t need a new experience. Sometimes you need to revisit a game that already has its claws in your soul and let it ruin your emotional stability all over again.
That’s self care…probably.
Favorite Moments from March
A few genuinely cute things happened, because life does occasionally toss up a sprinkle of whimsy to keep us from walking directly into the sea.
First, my 2nd grade field trip to the State Museum. My nephew was in my morning group for it, which was an…experience. At one point, the kids were so bored (one of the presentations was dry…even for me and I LOVE history) and my nephew just stared at me like I could save him. Kiddo, nope, we both have to suffer.
Then there was the annual teachers vs. 5th grade volleyball game, where I’m pleased to report that the teachers won…again. As we should. I support children, I encourage children, I care deeply about their growth and development, but in that gym? We dominated. I do not believing in letting kids win just because they’re kids.
I also got a cute tote bag inspired by A Court of Mist and Fury, which is my favorite book of all time.
What I’m Resetting in April/The Spring Season
April is about gently dragging myself back into a steady routine that got derailed by spring break and becoming one with my couch, heated blanket, and Kindle (yes, I’m reading again…yay me! Let’s see if this keeps up AFTER I go back to work tomorrow)
I’m also planning my TBR and watchlist for Old School April, which is a 90s-themed challenge built around reading, movies/TV, and journaling.
Basically my three favorite things.
I’m obsessed with this concept because it feels playful and nostalgic without being restrictive. Some of the prompts are already making me stupidly happy, like:
- Larger Than Life – read a book over 300 pages (I’m reading A Court of Wings and Ruin)
- Yearbook – read a book from the year or decade you were born
- The Mighty Ducks – watch a movie featuring sports (already done, watched Mighty Ducks 2…I’m so original…)
- Visit a nostalgic locale
I’m so locked in.
Final Verdict:
March may not have been a star performer, but it did what months do: it came, it left behind some lessons, and now it’s making room for something new.
Here’s to April!
And here’s a new feature I’m adding to my monthly wrap-ups:
Student Quote of the Month:
“Ghosts are just people that look at you like O.O.” – Student, 7
Like, kid…what possessed you to say…nvm…
